PANORAMA OF MONTUZET
A site in Plassac, known as Mont des Oiseaux or Mont d'Auzet, recounts the legend of Charlemagne.
So many legends in Plassac! The one we are about to tell you is closely linked to Charlemagne: it is said that after the victory of 804, the famous King of the Franks threw his victorious sword from Monconseil and that it landed at this very spot. He decided to have a small chapel dedicated to the Virgin to thank her for helping him defeat the Sarazins. This place is therefore the hill of Montuzet, mount de auzet or the mount of the birds, which became Montuzet, on which was erected in 1874 the Virgin of the Seamen, which faces the estuary.
