MOULIN A VENT FARINIER DE CUGAREL
Farinier de Cugarel windmill, a survivor from Castelnaudary, with panoramic views of the Montagne Noire.
In the 17th century, Castelnaudary had 32 mills. Made of local stone, this survivor is typical of the windmills of the Lauragais with its truncated cone shape. Following the creation of the Canal du Midi, Castelnaudary became the only major port between Toulouse and the sea, allowing the export of cereals from the Lauragais. Active until 1921, it was restored in 1962 and retains its millstones and its rotating framework to orient itself according to the wind. Panoramic view on the Black Mountain.
