ABBEY - THE MONASTERY
A remarkable Gothic church with a majestic Renaissance fortified bell tower and a biblical garden in Lagrasse.
To enter the monastery, you'll have to pass through a large wrought-iron gateway opening onto a classical-style courtyard and cloister built in pink stone, the building's characteristic colour. The imposing Gothic church, built in the 13th century on the foundations of a Carolingian basilica, opens onto a transept flanked by three pretty 11th-century Romanesque apsidioles. At the foot of the majestic Renaissance fortified bell tower, a biblical garden, passionately tended by the canons since 2004, concludes the visit.
