The obelisk of Naurouze, built between 1825 and 1827 in honour of the founder of the Canal du Midi, on the stones of Naurouze, rises to 20 m high. The pedestal of the obelisk is decorated with two allegorical low reliefs by the sculptor François-Frédéric Lemot. Remember that the Naurouze threshold, symbolised by this obelisk, is the highest point of the Canal du Midi, which connects the Mediterranean to the Atlantic, and separates the waters of the Massif Central and the Pyrenees. You should also know that the stones of Naurouze are vestiges of the Tertiary era.
