SYNDICAT D’INITIATIVE
Between Black and Littoral Mountains, Ouveillan is a typical Languedoc village, sheltered from crowds, but also active with its events. Lombardy-Romanesque church, medieval ramparts, vineyards, salt pond, and a little further Fontcalvy, a Cistercian barn of the th century where each summer a festival with a show on the theme of the Middle Ages is held. A 10 km walk from the market square, Place Carnot, will make you discover what is one of the cultural centres in Narbonne. Climb the stairs to the public garden, turn by the church and leave the village passing by the ruins of the Capitoul, Pasteur Street, Rouquié Square, rue Espagnac, rue de la Grangette. You will pass around the dried saline pond (salt was extracted until the th century), cross a pine forest with remarkable views and make a stop by the barn. The route is pleasant and varied, to be done in the morning.
Within the village, several walks are recommended: The Castellas, the fort, the old coolers, the church, the Portal, rue Sarvisse, the old hospital, the old oil mill… outside the village, walks by foot or bike, the pond, the castle of Preïssan and the Terral Sallèles and the Canal du Midi.
