Natural site with impressive gorges, classified in 1948 in Quillan.

The Pierre-Lys gorge is an astonishing natural site, carved out of the rock and listed in 1948. These impressive gorges mark the separation between the Razès and Fenouillèdes regions. At that time, transport and trade took place on the Aude River, in the gorges. It wasn't until the 19th century that the site was opened up, making it easier to link Quillan to Axat by road. Today, passers-by and white-water sports enthusiasts alike can enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Haute Vallée de l'Aude.

Très bel endroit ! La randonnée est agréable et permet d'avoir une vue du dessus. Et la pratique de l'escalade est tout aussi agréable !

Splendides gorges entre Belvianes et St Martin Lys. La route est étroite à certains endroits et des encorbellements ne la rendent pas praticables à certains véhicules trop hauts ( qui sont alors obligés de rouler sur la voie de gauche pour ne pas toucher en hauteur). L Aude serpente en contre bas ou sont pratiqués des sports d eau vive ( kayak, hot dog, rafting, hydrospeed). Les falaises en bord d Aude ( a l entrée des gorges côté Belvianes) sont équipées pour l escalade ( cf topo guide de La Pierre Lys), nombreuses voies sympa (avis aux grimpeurs : certaines parties de la falaise constituent des lieux de nidation pour des espèces protégées d oiseaux).

Magnifiques gorges profondes et sinueuses entre Quillan et Axat. Route étroite mais qui vaut le coup d'œil au cœur du pays cathare.
