SAISSAC CASTLE
Castle of the Saissac family with a museum, the ruins overlook the Vernassonne ravine from the rocky promontory
The ruins of the castle dominate the Vernassonne ravine from its rocky promontory. This site was a notable strategic position at the entrance to the Black Mountain. In the Middle Ages, it was the residence of the powerful Saissac family, before passing through several hands. Gradually abandoned over time, it was returned to the city in 1994. Part of it has been restored, and two rooms now house a museum on the "treasure" found in Saissac in 1979. The site is registered as a historical monument.
