OPPIDUM OF PECH MAHO
The pre-Roman oppidum of Pech Maho is located in a remarkable setting in Sigean, a historic site worth discovering.
The pre-Roman oppidum of Pech Maho was a trading post occupied by three successive villages between the 6th and 3rd centuries BC. Built on a triangular limestone hill at an altitude of 29 m, it covers an area of 1.5 ha. The site, at the crossroads of sea, river, and land (the Spanish Way), was discovered in 1913 by Henri Rouzaud. Several excavation campaigns have shed new light on the life of the Elisyques in the Narbonnais region during the Iron Age. Information at Musée des Corbières.
