BENON HOSPITAL CHURCH
This charming Romanesque church is the remains of the first hospital commandery established in Medoc. Its foundation dates back to the time of the Second Crusade (1147-1149). Located on Chemin de Compostelle, this church, remarkable example of the Military Order Architecture, has been restored since 1977 and this, thanks to the association Amis de Notre-Dame-de-Benon. The building, dating from the 12th or 13th century, is fortified and vaulted, it was originally meant to have an asymmetrical facade with moulded gate, as well as an irregular nave because it was built several times. It has been classified as a Historical Monument since 1972.
