Church built in 1525, known as the birthplace of Christianity in Adge
Built in 1525, this monument is an essential part of the town's history. It stands on the site of the city's oldest church, known as the birthplace of Christianity in Agde. It was the seat of the Council of Agde in 506, during the reign of Alaric II, which defined the rites of communion. In the rib-vaulted nave, which serves side chapels, the basilica houses the 3.30 m-high "Council Column". Graves dating from the5th and 6th centuries have been discovered here.
