ST. STEPHEN'S CATHEDRAL
Saint-Etienne d'Agde cathedral, accentuated by the imposing character of its fortifications with a 35 m high keep
Do not leave Agde without having pushed the doors of this monument sacred for the Agathois. Built in the 9th century and fortified in the 12th century, this cathedral is one of the most beautiful fortified buildings in the region. With its dungeon culminating at 35 meters high, it looks more like a castle than a church. Dominating the square, its particularity lies in the fact that it was built in black volcanic stone coming from the Mont Saint-Loup, which accentuates the imposing character of its fortifications and gives it its so atypical color. A must-see!
