THE TAMARISK TREE

A wood composed essentially of pines and tamarisk, located between the sea, the river and the reed beds of the Clôt in Agde
This wood, mainly composed of pine and tamarisk trees, gave its name to the village installed at its feet: La Tamarissière. The trees were planted at the end of the 18th century to combat the silting up of the mouth of the river Hérault. The pine forest is therefore more than two hundred years old! Between sea, river and reed beds of the Clôt, this wood is also the kingdom of squirrels. From June to September, it welcomes campers. The rest of the year, it is a very pleasant place to walk, still wild, between the beach and the woods. On the site, several bunkers from the Second World War are visible, notably the infirmary bunker (or 638) which is open to visitors on Saturday mornings.
