MADELEINE CHURCH
This and century building was the setting for one of the bloodiest events in Béziers.
This 11th and 14th century building was the setting for one of the bloodiest events in Béziers: the massacre of its inhabitants in 1209 by the army of the "Albigensian Crusade", led by Simon de Montfort. It seems that the nave and the choir date from this period. The church underwent many alterations in the 14th century, notably the raising of its bell tower, and in the 18th century, mainly because of its transformation into a bayonet factory after the Revolution. In 1999, its Romanesque style was restored to it after important works.
