L'AMPHITHÉÂTRE ROMAIN
An amphitheatre with a capacity of 15,000 spectators, restored to its former glory
The ancient past of the city of Berne is omnipresent, as evidenced by the1st century amphitheatre, which could hold up to 15,000 spectators and was brought to light in 1992 in the Saint-Jacques district. Restoration work has enhanced the remaining elements, such as the vomitories, bleachers, ambulatories and columns. This enhancement has made it possible to mark out the ancient footprint of the building in the surrounding streets. Also, come aboard with the gladiator Biterrus who will tell you the history of the site during 45 minutes of augmented reality!
