The highest lock of the Canal du Midi, inaugurated in 1858 at the same time as the Canal Bridge in Béziers
Inaugurated in 1858 at the same time as the Canal Bridge, the Orb lock is the highest lock on the Canal du Midi. This lock gives access to the Port-Neuf, which was put into service after the abandonment of the Port Notre-Dame. The basin of the new port, much larger than the previous one, is surrounded upstream by the Orb lock and downstream by the Béziers lock. The Maison Batelière ensures the mooring of the barges in stopover thanks to the quay equipped with 16 rings of which 15 are supplied with water and electricity.
