ALLÉES PAUL RIQUET
Alleys with an imposing statue of Paul Riquet in Béziers that pays tribute to the architect and his spectacular creation
Built in 1827 on the filling of the ditches of the old city walls, the alleys are the soul of the city of Béziers. Structured to the north by the municipal theater "à l'italienne" and its "bonbonnière" décor, and to the south by the entrance to the Plateau des Poètes, the alleys are adorned with the pretty facades of Haussmann buildings, and come alive with the flower stalls of the Friday morning flower market. In the middle, the imposing statue of Paul Riquet, the work of sculptor David d'Angers, pays tribute to the architect and his spectacular creation, the Canal du Midi.
