CANDILLARGUES CASTLE
Located on the square that bears his name, the castle of Candillargues was built in the 17th century, after Jean de Lauzelergues acquired the seigneury of Candillargues (1624). The succession then brought it into the hands of a family of ancient Languedoc nobility until the Revolution. In the 19th century, it had different owners, but the greatest transformations came from the acquisition by Emile Galtayries, which made it the heart of an impressive vineyard. It then had five cellars capable of accommodating 40,000 hectolitres and its dynamics led to an increase in the village's population. During the inter-war period, the estate was divided up and sold to several buyers, while the castle was divided into lots in the 1980s. Listed in the inventory of cultural heritage, it has preserved its warheads and a beautiful staircase with straight flights that continue in vis-a-vis. Today the monument is not open to visitors because it is a private property, but you can still see its splendour from the surrounding roads.
