HEAD HOUSE
La Maison des Têtes, a Basque mansion with a historic past, adorned with mysterious royal bas-reliefs.
The "house of the heads" is the nickname attributed to the noble house Derdoy-Oyhenart where the Basque historian Oyhenart (1592-1668) lived in the 16th century. Located in front of the Saint-Paul church, this building presents on its white facade bas-reliefs showing the portrait of the last kings of Navarre of the dynasty of Albret: Henri II, his daughter Jeanne d'Albret and his grandson Henri III of Navarre, future Henri IV. All are surrounded by figures representing a woman and a devil added later following the expansion of the house.
