ANCIENT CHURCH OF ST. GENIUS
Old Saint-Géniès church with a bell tower used as a defense element during a troubled period.
Located in the heart of Gigean, the church of Saint-Géniès dates from the end of the 11th century and has been very well restored. It is a Romanesque church of which the sanctuary and part of the walls of the nave remain, dating from the beginning of the 12th century. It underwent various transformations during its history, in particular in the XIVth century during gothic reorganizations. The bell tower with a square base dates from the same period, it was an element of defense in a troubled period.
