THE ROCK OF THE ORATORIES
A site in Gignac, bringing together fourteen chapels dedicated to Jesus, St. John the Baptist and St. Joseph.
On the heights of Gignac, 14 chapels are arranged in staggered rows. These similar chapels were built from 1672 onwards. The first was built by the Récollet Fathers, who were in charge of the chapel. The other chapels were built by parishioners in honor of Jesus, St. John the Baptist and St. Joseph. In the 18th century, other chapels were added thanks to the generous donations and piety of wealthy Hérault families. It wasn't until the 19th century that this string of oratories was transformed into a Way of the Cross.
