Unusual and little known place, offering an itinerary to discover the village and the abbey church of Joncels
The foundation in the 7th century of a fortified Benedictine monastery, whose pink sandstone cloister dates from the 12th century, gave the medieval village of Joncels a certain renown. Nationalized and sold to the inhabitants during the Revolution, the cloister became the place of everyday life. Thus its central garden has become the village square while the columned promenade serves as porches for the surrounding houses. An unusual and little-known place not to be missed. Cultivating the image of the past, Joncels is still a stopover on the road to Santiago de Compostela. An itinerary of discovery of the village and the abbey church will allow you to discover Joncels step by step.
