THE GATEWAYS
The magnificent footbridges of La Grande-Motte, where pedestrians and cyclists are given priority.
The town is equipped with six footbridges as part of the circulation "strategy" devised by Jean Balladur, where pedestrians and cyclists rarely cross paths with cars. Arriving via Carnon and the Grand Travers beach, visitors come upon the Lampadophores footbridge, finely crafted and adorned with twelve sculptures (representing eight men and four women). Signed Michèle Goalard, they reflect the light as a sign of welcome. Set according to the "clock of the sky", each summer solstice, the pierced oculus draws an intriguing circle on the ground.
