ATELIER ROUGE TERRE
Pottery workshop using the traditional Japanese raku technique to create strange ceramic creatures.
In their studio, Cécile and Dorian Poveda bring strange ceramic creatures to life using the ancestral method of raku, a Japanese firing technique dating back to the 15th century. After firing, the pieces are meticulously glazed by hand, then subjected to a second firing with the kiln open, creating a thermal shock that causes cracks in the glaze. The objects are then dipped in wood shavings, creating a dark contrast on the unglazed parts and cracks.
