Large exhibition room featuring a magnificent collection of carpets and describing the weaving methods used
Contrary to what its name might suggest, this workshop doesn't make soaps: it's a unique annex of the Manufacture Nationale de tapis de la Savonnerie des Gobelins. It is dedicated to the creation of exceptional carpets for embassies, national monuments and the Élysée Palace. This weaving technique has been perpetuated for over four centuries. The workshop works on traditional rugs and collaborates with contemporary artists to create unique works. It takes between twelve months and seven years to produce a carpet.
