ST. IPPOLIT'S CHAPEL
Romanesque chapel of Saint-Hippolyte with a crenellated polygonal tower and a remarkable polygonal apse
Classified as a Historic Monument, the Romanesque chapel of Saint-Hippolyte de Loupian is a building dating from the second half of the 12th century, when it was probably associated with the lordly castle. It was surmounted in the 14th century by a polygonal tower with crenellations, a defensive element. Its capitals are a rare example of Romanesque sculpture in the Pays de Thau. Its apse is quite remarkable: polygonal in shape, it is covered by a vault in cul-de-four, made with small rectangular blocks assembled in spikes.
