MAUGUIO CHURCH
This church, whose construction dates back to the end of the Wars of Religion, is referenced as the Saint-Jacques church.
The church is believed to have been built towards the end of the Wars of Religion, around 1698. Originally dedicated to Saint-Jacques, only the clock tower and the nave's south and north walls remain from the original building. In the right-hand chapel, a marble stele recalls the influence of the Count of Melgueil. No fewer than four popes were his guests between 1096 and 1165. This major influence is explained by the importance of Maguelone Cathedral at the time. Next door, it was the most influential church after Rome!
