MOUND GARDEN
The Jardin de la Motte in Mauguio is a French-style public garden with a breathtaking view of the Pic Saint-Loup and the sea.
The village's history dates back to the 10th century, when the counts and bishops of Maguelone established their new residence on the site of Melgueil, from which they took their name. Around 960, they erected an artificial feudal motte. After the departure of the Counts of Melgueil, the Town Hall acquired the gardens in 1820, at the height of the economic boom linked to the wine industry. A new urban planning feature appeared: the public garden. Mauguio's garden was to be "French-style", with a breathtaking view of the Pic Saint-loup and the sea.
