This traditional sport, which has its roots in Frontignan as early as 1627, has remained intact, played in eight cities of Hérault and in a city of Gard. The knights of the tintaine, wearing white garments, parade with the sound of traditional music before sitting on their boats: two rowboats, the "la rouge" and the "la bleue", propelled by eight to ten rowers and guided by two helmsmen. Jousters positioned themselves on a platform called tintaine, located almost three meters from water and at the extremity of each boat. The two rowboats are positioned for the assault. Then, the two boats, propelled by the rowers, come close to each other from the right to allow both jousters to pass. With his spear and his shield, the jouster is trying to bring down his opponent. The winner is the one who stays on the tintaine after the pass. The fight starts as soon as the oboes and the drums announce the attack.
