THE REMARKS
Montagnac's ramparts were built during the reign of Philippe Auguste
Built during the reign of Philippe Auguste, Montagnac's ramparts are located at the beginning of Rue du Clocher. They were severely damaged during the Hundred Years' War and the Wars of Religion. Originally, they consisted of ditches, five defensive gates and a fortified church. The ramparts were partly restored in the 17th century, when they were surrounded by houses built on either side. The end of the 18th century saw the beginning of the destruction of the ramparts at rue des Moulins and rue Corderie.
