SOCIÉTÉ ASTRONOMIQUE DE MONTPELLIER
The SAM was created in 1979 under the impetus of some passionate people who wanted to introduce astronomy into montpellieri lands. In 1981 she set up the famous Babote Tower which was part of the city's ramparts from the end of the xiith century, becoming an astronomical observatory from 1745 to 1793, and since which in 1783 Louis-Sébastien Lenormand tested the first parachute! Since the 1980 s, further developments have been made and the Astronomical Society of Montpellier is developing. In addition to various activities, it offers evenings of public comment and visits of the observatory equipped with a 250 mm diameter telescope.
