HÔTEL DE VILLE DE MONTPELLIER
Open to the public since November 14th, 2011, the new city hall of Montpellier is a huge nave designed by the architects Jean Nouvel and François Fontès. On the banks of the river Lez, accessible by the line 1 of the tramway, the building shaped like a cube is a modern structure in steel and in glass, dressed in blue, black and grey colours. Inaugurated by Hélène Mandroux, it is impressive: 90 metres by 50, for 12 levels on 41 feet high. A thousand agents work there! Although the whole thing is beautiful, its distance from the city centre is regrettable, fortunately it is possible to go to one of the 7 city halls annexes to withdraw a document or make your papers! Also note that certain procedures and requests can be made via the website and the answers are often equally fast.
