MUSEUM OF THE HISTORY OF MONTPELLIER
Down the place Jean-Jaures, the Notre-Dame-des-Tables crypt, as old as it is, houses an ultra-modern museum. In the base, the building traces the history of Montpellier through that of the church and uses visual and sound entertainment. Of Romanesque origin, the crypt is made up of the original church Sainte-Marie in the tenth Century. In the twelfth century, a new church was built. It received its name when money changers settled at the foot of its walls. In this small space, where remains only part of the retaining walls and a little pavement, as well as part of the foundations of the tower and the ambulatory of the twelfth and thirteenth centuries, a virtual tour in the past of Montpellier was installed. The vaulted room presents on its part, the recent history of the city and its future evolution. The entire visit is done with the audio helmet, which releases information continuously; it lasts about half an hour.
