Le Maquis is a whole atmosphere. It is both an African grocery and a bar-restaurant which serves you colourful cocktails and light meals with local colours. This grocery-restaurant is very popular among the African community in Montpellier, people from Congo, Cameroon, Ivory Coast at the lead, and among the expatriates who lived there. Beer with ginger and other exotic drinks, plantain, palm cream (from palm trees), chicken fed in African way, tilapia fish, cassava, yam: there is enough to take you into the tropical cuisine. It is unpretentious and very affordable. The yassa chicken is a marvel, as well as the sweet potato and banana chips. However, beware of the pepper (which is fortunately served separately). Small inconvenient: the service is a little long and it is better to come early when the restaurant broadcasts evening games.
