THE CASTLE OF THE BOSC
Château du Bosc is one of the 46 monuments of the Hérault listed in the general inventory of cultural heritage. Although it belongs to a private owner, its unique history deserves a brief look. It dates back to the 18th century and to the estates of Bosc and Valignac, owned by Sieur Joubert, treasurer of the province of Languedoc. From his death in 1792, a succession of owners was at the origin of the division of the estate. It is thought that one of them, a shipowner, sold the estate in 1815 to pay off his creditors after losing his boats in a storm at sea. From then on, the castle knew several destinations, including boarding school, but remained in the hands of the same family, the Candolles, until the 1930s, which perhaps explains why it kept much of its original appearance with its three floors, tower and lookout, but also its sculptures of medallion characters positioned between the windows. Not to mention, of course, a large and beautiful 7-hectare park, which would contain some beautiful plant species.
