MIST ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITE
If the Chalcolithique-Farrus chalcolithique site, discovered now 22 years ago in Cabrières, is now well known, it is the turn of the oldest metallurgical village in France, discovered on the northern part of Péret on the edge of a creek, in place of the "Capitelle du Broum", to reveal its secrets as the excavations unfold. The deposit revealed the oldest metallurgical establishment in France. The archaeological soils allow to establish that the main phases of the transformation of copper (oxides and sulphides) ores in metal are present (ore sorting, partially reductive fusion, oxidative remodelling). The metallurgical processing areas, the only of this time in France (of simple pits), are numerous. They are associated, without their contemporaneity being proven, with huts with dry apses stone walls, hitherto unknown to the west of the river Hérault.
