THE CHURCH OF SAINTE-URSULE - FORMER CONVENT OF THE URSULINES
Church located in Pézenas, monument occupied by the Ursulines from 1666.
Built a stone's throw from the Jean Jaurès course, within the former Paulhan hotel, this monument was occupied by the Ursulines from 1666. Arriving from Marseille in 1610, they were previously located near the Porte de Béziers. This installation encouraged the construction of the church in 1686 by the artisan mason Antoine Carrier. Inside, the gilded wooden altarpiece is the work of the Biterrois sculptor Jacques Thomas, it mixes architectural elements, sculptures and paintings. The latter were created by Barthélémy Aurès, an artist from the region. Among the treasures of the building is the Romanesque Black Madonna of the Chapel of the Virgin, it comes from the former chapel of the commandery of the Hospitallers of Saint John of Jerusalem.
