MONT CAROUX
In the heart of the Haut Languedoc Regional Natural Park, the valleys of Orb and Jaur, north of Béziers, offer natural treasures, hidden between peaks and garrigues Gorges of Héric and Colombières, Massif Massif, Orb Gorges, Massif Massif, Somail Forest. Overlooking the confluence of Jaur and Orb, Mount Caroux, on its plateau at 1 091 m above sea level, forms with the Mont l'Espinousse an emblematic landscape of Upper Languedoc. The Font Pass the gate. Its varied landscapes alternate between deep forests, plantées landes, peaceful water from Lake Airette. He is locally called the "woman lying" or "elongated woman" because of her form which recalls a woman's body. It's here, between landes and lawns that sheep has elected home. These large wild sheep imported from Corsica in 1956 have adapted perfectly to these southern, dry and well-fried southern mountains. In fact, their demographic curve has jumped: About, the sheep are almost a thousand today, so there are more than men who live only a few hamlets around the massif, such as Duch or Héric. It is a rough and generous tower, south or ocean, and this mountain lends itself perfectly to the practice of hiking, sometimes sports, and altitude climbing. At the summit, a grandiose panorama continues: from west to east on the rounded peaks of the Black Mountain, the Pyrenees and Béziers plains.
