A winegrowing escapade through the green belt of the city of Hérault.
This winegrower's escapade will allow you to criss-cross the green belt of the city of Hérault. On a route made of vines, old stones and scrubland, it will take you close to the villages of Saint-Georges-d'Orques, Juvignac, Pignan, Lavérune and Murviel-lès-Montpellier. Since the Middle Ages, the wines of Saint-Georges-d'Orques are known and reputed. In the early seventeenth century, their fame extends beyond the borders of the kingdom of France. Their reputation at the time arouses covetousness. Wines from neighbouring villages, bought at half the price, claimed the name of Saint Georges-d'Orques to take advantage of their flourishing development. The struggle to protect the name lasted for half a century, until the French Revolution. It is fierce. Winegrowers were thrown into prison, and a consul was even appointed to settle disputes! Today's winegrowers will gladly tell you their stories, those of their land and the passion of their men. Everyone will appreciate meeting them and sharing moments with them.
To be seen:
Languedoc Saint-Georges-d'Orques PDO vineyard, wine estates.
