GELLONE ABBEY
Sanctuary on the way to Santiago suggesting a free visit every day to discover its refectory and church.
A jewel of Romanesque art, this sanctuary, founded in the early 9th century, is one of Languedoc's most important spiritual and cultural centers. Located on the route to Santiago de Compostela, and housing a piece of the True Cross, it flourished until the early 15th century. After being sacked during the Wars of Religion, part of the cloister was dismantled in the 19th century. All that remains of the monastery are the refectory and the abbey church. These can be visited free of charge every day. Take your time wandering through the narrow streets.
