OYAS ENVIRONNEMENT
In Saint-Jean-de-Fos, whose history is closely linked to ceramics, Frédéric Bidault and Bastien Noël are renewing the tradition of clay pots. Since 2014, the two young entrepreneurs have been manufacturing oyas: microporous ceramic containers. Filled with water and semi-buried near the plants, they gradually let out the moisture that the plants need to grow. This irrigation technique is not new, it was already at work in ancient Rome, or in China, 4,000 years ago. This system of common sense guarantees a water saving of 50 to 75% compared to traditional watering: the plants draw the right amount of liquid necessary for their development on their own; and the water, trapped underground, is protected from evaporation. Available in three versions, natural, decorated or enamelled, and with different diameters, oyas can be adapted to any part of the garden, as well as to planters and flower pots. They are made in Saint-Jean-de-Fos by a dozen potters and craftsmen, who are shareholders of the company. The material is 100% natural and biodegradable for an ethical and ecological approach from A to Z.
