BORNE MILLIAIRE
A milepost in Sauvian that indicated the way to travelers and convoys coming from Rome in the 1st century AD.
In the first century AD, milestones were installed on the roads of the Roman Empire, every 1,478 meters - Gallic league -, up to the forum of Rome, the "zero point". The milestone of Sauvian is the witness of this distant time. It was installed on August 1st of the year 10 BC, by the emperor Claude. On this secondary road of Narbonne, it indicated the way to the travelers and convoys which came from Rome. After many vicissitudes due to history, the milestone now occupies its place of 2000 years ago.
