CASTLE OF VALERGUES
The village of Valergues has never had a real castle, it is an 18th century house that took the title. The house was built by a lawyer and then by a French treasurer, they had it built and ordered a park in the style of Versailles, with water supplied by two wells, one of which was located in a vineyard that was unfortunately destroyed during the construction of the Château's allotment. The current well was restored when the castle was purchased in 2006, it is a remarkable structure, called in the region "Pouzaranque" (in Occitan: to draw water). The park, half of which was purchased by the municipality, was redesigned in 1844. On the facade of the castle remain the arms of Monsieur de Tourtoulon and the motto TURNIS HOSTI, TURTU AMICO ("fortress for enemies, dove for friends"). The castle - abandoned for nearly 50 years - was bought by a family in 2005 and restored. Only the garden, the well and the facade are to be contemplated, the rest belonging to the private domain.
