SAINT LEOCADIE'S CHURCH
Remarkable church, the jewel of the Romanesque architecture of Vic-la-Gardiole, one of the oldest fortified churches on the coast.
Built in the 12th century, this genuine stone vessel is one of the oldest fortified churches on the coast. Dominating the village, the pond and the plain, it is without a doubt the jewel of Romanesque architecture of Vic-la-Gardiole. Built without a foundation, in enormous blocks carved out of shell limestone, Sainte-Léocadie defended the coast which, in the Middle Ages, was often threatened by the Saracens. In the 19th century, a clock was added to the façade and the sacristy, an element that contributes to its beautiful aesthetics.
