Village of copper age, Cambous offers the originality of these villages built in dry stone, installed on Jurassic limestone extensively cracked, what geologists call a lappiaz. Excavations have made it possible to discover tools in silex, in bones, many terracotta containers that make it possible to imagine intense culinary activity… The populations who settled there 5 000 years ago developed a way of farming and pastoral life that has been preserved until today. During the visit, in the middle of the garrigue, excavations are explained and completed on the reconstitution of one of these ancient huts. At the request, are organized for the prehistoric workshops groups: kitchen, art, fire, size of flint, pottery…

The member of staff on site was helpful and was able to explain everything we needed to know in English. We only wish the Auberge next to the car park had been open for lunch during august as that would have been a completely ideal day out!
Do check the website for times and costs. Highly recommend to anyone interested in copper age history!
