Sauternes winegrowers' association and the world's largest Sauternes winery, with some sixty quality crus.
An association under the French law of 1901 bringing together Sauternes winegrowers, the Maison du Sauternes is a superb showcase for the appellation, covering the communes of Barsac, Bommes, Fargues, Preignac and Sauternes. It includes 1 premier cru supérieur (Château d'Yquem), 11 premiers crus and 14 second crus classés. Among the sixty or so wines on offer, you'll find Sauternes at the same price as at the estate: from low prices (under 15 euros) to higher prices for grands crus and older vintages. The place is well worth a visit, with its wall of luminous bottles.
