STONE CASTLE
Former fortified castle of the XIIIth century with Italian facade, French gardens leading to the banks of the Dordogne, place of events
This former 13th-century château, formerly owned by Henri IV, has been altered on several occasions, resulting in a Renaissance section built around 1600, an Italianate façade and a monumental staircase. Its superb formal gardens lead directly to the banks of the Dordogne, and are almost alone worth the detour. Furnished in period style, the château also houses a fine collection of tapestries. Listed as a Monument Historique and a Jardin Remarkable, Vayres has been awarded the Prix de l'Animation du Patrimoine and the 2013 Médaille du Tourisme. Many events take place here.
