BLACK PRINCE'S CASTLE
Castle on a glacial moraine in the Pyrenees, with a keep dating from 1120, a massive square tower and a main building
On a hillock, a little away from Arcizans-Avant, stands the Black Prince's Castle. Built on a glacial moraine, it has a keep which was certainly built in 1120 and owes its name to Edward de Woodstock who occupied it during the Hundred Years War. Located in the heart of the Pyrenees, at an altitude of over 600 metres, this grandiose building has survived the centuries before being restored between 1970 and 1972. A titanic task that brought its ruins back to life and, today, it presents a massive four-level square tower as well as a 16th century main building.
