THE CHAPEL OF OUR LADY OF POUEY-LAÜN

It is called the golden chapel. All you have to do is admire the old golden panelling to the gold leaf to understand! Originally it is a pilgrimage chapel dedicated to the Virgin. Then the building underwent numerous renovations. Today it has baroque decor of the th century, th century and th century. More or less well preserved unfortunately. A historic monument, this sumptuous basilica, located at 930 metres above sea level, received in 1807 the visit of the Queen of Holland Hortense of Beauharnais, the mother of Napoleon III, thanks to which the Golden Madonna was made to worship. It also offers the particularity of being carved in the rock of the mountain, making it even more sumptuous and impressive. Pilgrimages are organized in August and September, but the chapel unfortunately remains too unknown. If you stay on the side of Arrens, it is worth visiting.
