A former feudal castle from the century housing one of the largest collections of birds of prey in the world
On its rocky outcrop, dominating the village of Beaucens, this ancient feudal castle of the XIth century welcomes you in its walls haunted from now on, by the lords of the sky. You will observe in these walls full of history one of the largest collections of birds of prey in the world: more than 45 species present. Most of the birds of prey live in the wild, allowing you to see them up close in their natural environment. Thanks to the delicate and skilful art of the falconers, perpetuated since the Middle Ages, these diurnal or nocturnal birds reveal some of their secrets. Eagles, vultures, buzzards, falcons, Egyptian vultures, kites, owls and owls demonstrate their skills every afternoon during a magical musical show. Enchanting, it is rich in emotions, sometimes strong, since some do not hesitate to brush you with their wings. The colorful parrots, more exotic, come down from the sky, free, to come and eat in your hands. A beautiful moment that will leave a lasting impression on the minds of children and adults alike. For many years, the Donjon des Aigles has also been committed to the preservation of species and the reproduction of birds of prey is one of its vocations. To avoid any disturbance, the birds are installed in a center set up away from the public near Argelès-Gazost. If artificial insemination is sometimes used, the method most commonly applied here is that of natural fertilization and the collection of the first clutch.
