FIRE MUSEUM, THE HISTORY OF FIREFIGHTERS
We had a real coup de coeur for this museum that pays tribute to firefighters, a strong theme, beautifully illustrated through a collection of documents, equipment and vehicles. This is the work of Commander Riva and one of the most beautiful. Around a decor that staged fire soldiers in a dress or work, you discover the first helmets dating back to 1830, too beautiful to be effective, but also arms pumps, including some of the last century, which required the participation of all the forces! The gear shows the evolution of firefighters' role over the years, less fire-oriented than victim assistance, and a rescue vehicle to suffocate and injured, the 1960 model, marks this change. The visit continues on the side of the impressive scales, including the one in service in Luz-Saint-Sauveur in 1964, with its door at the back of the cabin allowing the firefighters to extricate themselves from narrow streets. More modest but full of emotion, the portable siren, transferred by the LSP of Lannemezan, which was to be used in case of breaking the Cap-de-Long dam! A fascinating, rare and informative visit.
